NDKA makes an annual donation to "Debbie Stromme's BOOKS FOR BABIES". Our donation is based on the number of teachers who attend the annual NDKA Conference. NDKA donates $2 per registration in honor of Debbie.

Debbie Stromme was the second NDKA president and one of the "founding mothers" of NDKA along with Arlene Gunderson, Sue Kvamme, and Janet Merrill.

Debbie passed away April 4, 2008 from Lou Gehrig's Disease. Debbie founded a book project in Devils Lake called "Books for Babies." The purpose of this project was to donate a book to newborn babies at the Devils Lake hospital. Debbie wanted to make sure parents know the importance of reading to their child starting at a young age. The teaching staff at Prairie View Elementary School in Devils Lake renamed the project to "DEBBIE STROMME'S BOOKS FOR BABIES."
